Taleo touts talent management benefits
9 July, 2009 By Liam Lahey |

Effective talent management has never been more important. So says Guy Gauvin, executive vice president of global services, Taleo. The world may still be reeling from the impacts of the global recession, but that doesn't mean people are standing still.
"Interestingly enough, talent management in general, is still thriving even in this tough economy. People still change jobs . . . turnover still exists . . . for a large organization even if they have 15 percent turnover, that's a big challenge for them to face," he said. "There are also more applicants being sent their way . . . you definitely need strong processes in place to manage in order to get the talent you need into your organization."
Taleo, a California-based global provider of on-demand talent management software solutions with Canadian roots dating back to the late 90s, is based on the premise that businesses would have greater success if they regarded employees as "talent" and not merely a headcount.
By taking the principles from supply chain management and applying them to the recruiting and talent management processes of global corporations, Taleo said it is able to deliver the same bottom-line and process improvement benefits to large enterprises that supply chain management had brought to manufacturing.
"The next wave is to help connect all of our customers, partners; the whole ecosystem. We've launched an initiative called the Taleo Grid about a year ago and since then have delivered different components related to that," he explained. "We've put together all of our partners through this portal and our customers can look at all of that information and with the click of a button get connected with a Taleo partner."
Reducing employee churn is equally, if not more, important as is recruiting new talent, he pointed out. Gauvin also said North America will reportedly face a "talent shortage of about 10 million workers" come 2012 and one that has nil to do with circulating doomsday theories.
"If you lose somebody, you may have a hard time replacing them so you want to keep your people . . . a human capital management platform like Taleo's not only helps recruit new talent from the outside but also for maintaining the employees within the organization and help reduce that churn," he continued. "Even in a tough economy, talent management sits at the heart of the problem (organizations face)."
To date, Taleo has 4,000 large enterprise customers, 2.8 million users and 150 million candidates worldwide.
