Nowell Releases SpyForce-AI Counter-Espionage Security
12 August, 2004 By Dave Chappelle |

Nowell Development Inc. has launched SpyForce-AI.
The new technology uses artificial intelligence to defeat insider security breaches, such as information espionage and identity theft.
While many have thought it was a good idea, until now nobody has been able to make the concept work.
The product presents a new security solution to help address insider security threats, such as insider information espionage and computer identity theft.
SpyForce-AI defeats insider computer security threats caused by bad company employees who want to steal information, known as 'Insider Information Espionage'.
It is also designed to defeat computer identity theft, which occurs when thieves steal passwords and use them to log into a computer account.
"This is a big problem, and SpyForce-AI has the ability to catch and eliminate thieves who are logged in using stolen user identities," said Omon Edeki, chairman and CEO of Nowell Development.
"What is new and revolutionary about SpyForce-AI is its method of security. It learns how users behave over a period of time. The system requires at least 40 hours, but the level can be set by administrators."
It also learns personal information about each user by conversing with them in natural language using artificial intelligence.
In this dialog, it learns information that it uses to verify the user's identity. Then it covertly monitors the user's computer account for any behavior that appears suspicious.
When suspicious behavior is detected, SpyForce-AI interrogates the suspect user by having him/her answer some questions.
If the person fails to answer correctly, then it ejects the user out of the computer and reports to administrators.
If the questions are answered correctly, the user is allowed to continue, and Syforce-AI adapts to the new behavior learned.
"With SpyForce-AI, incidents of identity theft, password theft and insider information espionage are caught and defeated," Edeki said.
"Incidents of insider suspicious behavior that is likely a computer attack will be reported. Also, incidents of identity theft in which you have thieves who are logged in using stolen identities like passwords will be caught and ejected from the computer network. Customers will be able to make sure that those who are logged in are who they actually claim to be."
From a regulatory perspective, SpyForce-AI provides insider counter-espionage safeguards that must be implemented to fully protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate data.
Internal security controls ensure that an organization is in compliance with federal regulations, which call for pro-active internal security controls.
The program also automatically adapts to a user's behavior as it sees fit. When computer attackers try to break into someone else's computer account using a stolen user name and password, they likely behave differently from how the true owner of the computer account does under normal circumstances.
Also, if an insider tries to steal company information, they will do so in a suspicious manner, again, differently from how they would typically behave.
"If someone behaves in a manner in which he does not typically behave, then that will trigger an interrogation," said Edeki.
"The first time I went back to the office to work at 2AM, it interrogated me. The level of sensitivity can be set from low to high depending on the degree of security required."
The solution generates reports, saved on the server side, which can be printed out for prosecution in serious instances.
While enterprises can immediately understand and afford the need for such security, the term "artificial intelligence" almost sounds like "too expensive" to most in the SMB market. Is this software applicable or affordable for the SMB marketplace?
"Yes, it is very applicable to the SMB marketplace, especially to those who have a great deal of information to protect," Edeki said. "As far as pricing goes, it is affordable."
Nowell also has a great response to those who feel this product sounds too good to be true.
"We offer an evaluation period during which customers can test the product extensively," said Edeki.
"Customers can visit our site at www.nowellgroup.com to request the product."
